Sathu Maavu | Health mix | BABY FOOD for 7 Months old | குழந்தைகளுக்கு சத்து மாவு

Ingredients: 

All items below, 50 gms each

  1. Brown Rice
  2. Barley
  3. Dry grapes
  4. Javvu rice / Sago
  5. Kollu / Horse gram
  6. Cashew
  7. Badam
  8. Vellai cholam / White corn
  9. Pottu kadalai / Bengal gram roasted
  10. Godumai / wheat
  11. Paasi paruppu / Moss
  12. Keppai / Ragi / kezhvaragu (கேழ்வரகு)
  13. Kambu / Pearl millet Corn
Method: 

Sathu Maavu / Health mix food recipe for 7 months old and above. Sathu maavu is a healthy baby food in addition to mother's milk that supplements your kids nutrition. This will help increase the baby's growth and weight and give a healthy start every day. 

It can be given to babies older than 7 months old with 1 spoon powder and some water. You can slowly increase the amount of powder as the baby grows. We won't give cow's milk to babies less than 1 year old and so mix it with water. After 1 year, you can mix it with cow's milk. It can be given to school going kids by mixing it with water and palm sugar. It's very healthy for them and they will like it. Parents who are worried about the weight of their children can also give it to their kids.We have added millets, corn, badam etc. All these ingredients are useful in weight gaining.

  1. Wash all the ingredients and dry it in sunlight. 

  2. On a frying pan, mild heat, fry all the ingredients one by one. 

  3. Frying them lightly is enough. Do the frying process one by one but it can be mixed in a separate bowl after frying individually. 

  4. Keep the fried kollu / horse gram in a separate plate. 

  5. You need not fry the dry grapes and it's enough to mix it in the middle of the other items's heat. 

  6. We've fried and kept all the items other than Kollu / Horse gram. Let's fry it at last and keep it in a separately. 

  7. After frying the Kollu, spread the kollu / horse gram in a piece of paper or solavai and roll it with pestle to remove the outer skin layer from the kollu / horse gram. 

  8. That's it. Mix it well together and wait till all the ingredients are cooled down for griding. 

  9. Today, I took 50gms each and so it's easy for me to grind it to powder form using a home mixer. If you're wanting to make it in a large quantity then you can give it outside in a mill for grinding it to a fine powder. 

  10. Touch and feel the powder. 

  11. It must be very fine powder and not grainy. 

  12. If you store it in an airtight jar, it will last for a few months. 

We don't have to buy the readymade health mixes from the shops. Instead, we can make the health mix at home itself. You can make it into a drink or add some palm sugar to taste better.
